Taking a Picture of Your Computer ScreenOften, a picture is worth . . . you know. Here's how you can make a snapshot of your screen. It's called a "screen capture." Somewhere on your keyboard you should find a key labeled "Print Screen" (or, maybe PrScr or PrtSc). With the screen showing that you want a picture of , press the Print Screen key. (On some computers you have to press it twice.) Next, go to your Accessories folder -- Start > Programs > Accessories.
In Accessories you should find a program called "Paint" or "Paintbrush." Start this program. Then press Ctrl-V (The Ctrl key and the V key at the same time) or Edit > Paste. Say yes to any messages and, a picture of your screen should appear. Now, go to the File Menu, select "Save As." At the bottom of the window that pops up you'll find a box called "Save as Type." Click on the little arrow. From the list that appears select Graphics Interchange Format (*.gif). Enter a filename and choose a folder to save it in (I suggest My Documents or Desktop), then click Save.
Quit the Paint program. Locate the file. Double-click on it to look at it so you're sure you got what you wanted. Attach the file to your message. |
