This free utility does two things.  It lists duplicate finds/entries, and it lists finds near any set of coordinates.

Out of a total of 1430 finds for the cache Log a Lion
these 12 are near Houston, Texas.  The list shows how many miles the find is from your chosen coordinates

Out of 1430 finds for the cache Log a Lion,
this list of 109 are duplicates.  The list shows how many feet apart the coordinates are

You must be connected to the internet while using this utility.

You enter the URL for the Locationless Cache you want to analyze.  Then, when you arrive at the screen shown above you choose which kind of analysis you want to do by clicking either the Find Nearby or the Find Duplicates button.  Find Nearby will ask you for the coordinates you want to check, then it will list the existing finds/logs near those coordinates.  Find Duplicates will locate duplicate log-entries -- logs where two people have claimed the same find.

At the end of the Duplicates listing it will list logs that either don't give coordinates for the find, or that give coordinates the program cannot decipher.

If the cache has a lot of logs it can take a minute or so to run (even longer on an older computer) .  Once it's complete you can Double-Click on any item in the list, and go to its associated web logREMEMBER THIS!! you will find it very helpful, and many people never realize you can do this.

It will also take you to a map showing the location of the coordinates for the find/entry.  To map the coordinates, highlight the entry you want to map then look in the Stuff Menu or Right Click on the list.

In the Preferences Menu you can set your Home coordinates.  You can also change both the distance used for duplicate matching and the distance for determining which finds are nearby.  It remembers your Home coordinates and your latest working coordinates and your custom distances

Command Line (GSAK) Support

The program will accept URLs as command line arguments.  For example, the following startup command will automatically begin analyzing the Log a Lion cache:

"Locationless Proximity" http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC930D

This feature is most useful in conjunction with a GSAK macro styled as follows:

SET $LOCATIONLESS="http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp="+("%code")
RUNPGM pgm="c:\Program Files\Thots Utilities\Locationless Proximity\Locationless Proximity.exe" parms=$LOCATIONLESS

Where %code is the cache specific waypoint name -- for example, GC930D for Log a Lion

Note:
Cache pages with many logs can be quite large.  For example, a cache with 1000 logs is about 2 megabytes.  This can take a long time to download if you're on a dialup connection.  This long wait is due to your internet connection, not the program.

Click Here if you want to be notified of updates.

Caution:  Duplicate matching is based on coordinates that are less than 500 feet apart.  Two different qualifying items within 500 feet will cause a match even though they aren't duplicates.  In the example above it's common to have a pair of lion statues, one on each side of an entryway or monument.  Each is a different lion, yet they're only a few feet apart.

This program may or may not work with Windows 95,98 & Me.

It works for more than half the people who try it.  Try it instead of assuming it won't work on your computer.

If it doesn't work, download and install
this file then try again.

If I get 20 requests I'll make it
 work with these versions.

If you find the program useful please drop me a line.
If I know people are  using it I'm more likely to add features.
You will find my address in the program's Help menu.
